Grant Writer Volunteer

Find opportunities. Build strong proposals. Help fund the mission.

We are looking for a Grant Writer Volunteer who can help identify and pursue grant opportunities that align with the mission and work of The Hands and Feet of Christ Jesus.

This volunteer will research potential funding from private foundations, corporations, nonprofit and charitable organizations, faith-based organizations, and local, state, and federal government programs. The goal is to identify organizations whose funding priorities align with the work our Mission Teams are already doing and then help us develop strong, accurate grant applications.

This position is ideal for someone with grant-writing experience, but we are also open to someone with strong research and writing skills who is willing to learn the grant-writing process and grow into the role.

What You’ll Help Us Do

Research Grant Opportunities

Identify grants and other funding opportunities that align with our nonprofit’s mission, programs, and specific Mission Team initiatives. Research may include private foundations, corporations, charitable organizations, faith-based funders, and appropriate government grant programs.

Determine the Right Fit

Review grant requirements, eligibility criteria, funding priorities, deadlines, restrictions, and reporting requirements before recommending that we pursue an opportunity. We want to focus our time on grants where our organization and mission are a strong fit.

Work With Mission Team Leaders

Learn directly from our Mission Team Leaders about upcoming missions, community needs, program goals, expected outcomes, budgets, and the people being served. The Grant Writer will help translate that information into a compelling and well-supported grant proposal.

Prepare Grant Applications & Proposals

Help develop letters of inquiry, grant applications, narratives, project descriptions, budgets, statements of need, expected outcomes, and other supporting information required by the funder.

Maintain a Grant Calendar

Help us track potential grants, application deadlines, submission dates, award decisions, reporting requirements, and future opportunities so that important deadlines are not missed.

Support Grant Reporting & Accountability

When funding is awarded, help ensure we understand the funder’s requirements and assist with reports demonstrating how funds were used and what the mission accomplished.

Build Long-Term Funding Opportunities

Look beyond individual grants and help identify organizations whose priorities align with our work and could potentially become long-term funding partners.

Experience We’re Looking For

Experience in grant writing, nonprofit development, fundraising, research, proposal writing, government grants, foundation grants, or nonprofit communications is especially valuable.

However, previous professional grant-writing experience is not required. We are also interested in someone who is a strong researcher and writer, pays close attention to details and deadlines, communicates well, and has the desire and ability to learn effective grant writing.

The ideal volunteer will be able to research opportunities independently, understand grant requirements, organize information, write clearly and persuasively, and work collaboratively with our Mission Team Leaders to accurately represent the needs and expected impact of each mission.

Most importantly, we’re looking for someone who understands that successful grant writing isn’t simply about finding money. It’s about finding the right funding partners whose goals align with the work being done, developing a strong case for support, and demonstrating responsible stewardship and measurable impact.

Use your research and writing gifts to help provide the resources our Mission Teams need to serve others, share the Gospel, and make a lasting difference.
